Frequently Asked Questions

What fuel can I burn in the firebox?

The Grand Cuisine is designed to burn dry, seasoned hardwood. Other solid fuels, including coal, should only be used where specifically permitted in the user manual and by local regulations. Wet, treated or unsuitable fuels should not be used, as they can reduce performance, increase creosote build-up and affect the longevity of the unit.

Will the unit heat my space?

The Grand Cuisine is primarily designed as a wood-fired cooking stove, not as a dedicated radiant space heater. Its insulated construction helps retain heat within the stove for cooking performance, while the hotplate covers help keep heat in the body of the unit when the hotplate is not in use.

As the Grand Cuisine is a fully metal appliance, it will still produce some radiant warmth into the surrounding space. However, if your main priority is a wood-fired cooker that also provides stronger space heating and optional hot water, the Thermalux Gourmet Cooker may be a more suitable option.

How long will it last?

The Grand Cuisine manufactured using cast iron, heavy-gauge steel, mild steel and stainless steel components. Longevity is dependent on correct operation, regular cleaning and proper maintenance. If well maintained, it is designed to provide reliable service for many years.

How do I control the temperature?

The stove temperature is managed through the amount of fire in the firebox, and through use of the dual air controls which are located on the ashpan and firebox doors, as well as the damper and dilution controls.
These allow you to adjust the fire, hotplate and oven temperatures during operation. For detailed operating instructions, please refer to the user manual and installation guide.
